Join Our Team! Research Assistant Opportunity in the Sleep Lab

We’re excited to share a new opportunity to join the Sleep Lab at Royal Holloway as a Research Assistant. This role is a fantastic chance to gain hands-on research experience, contribute to meaningful work in sleep research, and become part of a supportive and collaborative academic team. Applications are invited for a position on the Leverhulme Trust funded project: “How does poor sleep in adolescents impact learning and education?”

Dr Alice M. Gregory on a common misunderstanding about genetics

Psyche.com has recently published an article written by Dr Alice M. Gregory. This argument emphasises how public misunderstanding of scientific concepts can be just as harmful as misinformation. It highlights how technical terms such as “heritability” are often misinterpreted by non-experts, leading people to draw incorrect conclusions about issues like mental health, behaviour, or disease risk. Kirsty Vant on the 7:1 Sleep Rule

Our amazing PhD student, Kirsty Vant, has once again published a lifestyle/wellness article about sleep science, this time, on The Standard. Kirsty talks about the “7:1 sleep rule”, a simple wellness guideline encouraging people to get at least seven hours of sleep each night while keeping their bedtime and wake-up time within the same one-hour window every day, including weekends. SmartSocks®DISCOVERY Pioneers Competition: RHUL Sleep Lab Awarded 2nd Place in the Sleep Category

Beatriz Venâncio, a doctoral student in our lab, took part in the 2026 SmartSocks®DISCOVERY Pioneers competition, an initiative aiming to recognise innovative research ideas using the SmartSocks® wearable sensing platform. Together with Dr Alice M. Gregory and Dr Jakke Tamminen, the team developed a proposal exploring how wearable technology can support sleep research in children and young people with Type 1 Diabetes.
